The Problem
Is the water on your lawn or around your home not drying up after a downpour? Is the water standing out for more than 48 hours? If so, you may end up with a ground saturation problem.
Ground saturation or standing water occurs when the soil around your home has absorbs too much water. Our clay soils can only absorb so much water before becoming over saturated. Overtime this can cause additional issues with the sod and ultimately you may end up having to regrade and resod part or the entire yard.
So if not fixed correctly and in a timely manner, you could risk losing sod or your flowerbeds. If the soil has too much water, plants can drown, and the ground can turn very soft. Once you lose the sod, this problem could develop into a grading issue. So, if not monitored or fixed correctly, you could be looking at more costly repairs in the future.
The Remedy
Several issues could be causing ground saturation. Most of the time, it has to do with a poor drainage plan for the property in some cases you may have had a good drainage plan in the past but overtime and with more development of the area that plan may not work any longer. And as stated above, clay type soils can become over saturated with too much water. So you may experience the results of not having an up-to-date properly installed and designed drainage system.
